Using machine learning to analyze retinal blood vessel growth in retinal flat mount images

The retina, the back wall of the eye that takes in the light we see, contains many blood vessels. These blood vessels can help us identify diseases based on their specific growth characteristics because certain diseases affect development and growth of the blood vessels in the eye. However, current methods of analyzing these blood vessels are slow when it comes to retinal flat mounts, which are cut-open retinas laid on a flat surface. To remedy this, I designed an effective, novel automated method to analyze the blood vessels using machine learning image analysis.
