Management of stray dog vaccination through individual identification of stray dogs using machine learning

Aparna Ajit Gupte, India 16-18

Annually, around 59,000 people die of rabies worldwide, even though the vaccination of stray dogs can prevent dog-mediated rabies. One of the main issues with the current vaccination process is the lack of reliable data on the population and vaccination status of stray dogs. We need to get a locality-wide census of the dog population in the city, individually identify them, identify whether the dogs have been vaccinated and which of those dogs need a repeat vaccination and when. This project uses machine learning techniques to automate the process of uniquely identifying individual dogs in a locality.
