Design and programming of a video game to promote social interaction among children with Asperger syndrome

Ximena Gómez Salgado, Carlos Emilio Espindola Espinosa, Mexico 13-15

Asperger syndrome is a neurobiological condition related to autism, characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction. Following several field visits to three care centers for people with the condition, a video game was developed to help children experiencing these difficulties. The video game was designed and programmed to create maps of common places in which various interactions can occur. An RPG (role-playing game) simulates various everyday situations that can be problematic for children with Asperger’s.
