Ambrosia: a novel low-cost, machine learning– and signal processing–based artificial spinal cord framework for motor disabilities

Imagine being able to control objects by just thinking of those actions. Our project, Ambrosia, revitalizes the disabled population by implementing an efficient and cost-effective robotic solution to stimulate motion. Our solution revolves around artificially and noninvasively bridging the disconnect between the brain and spinal cord, which would allow for motion. We have developed novel machine learning algorithms and 3D-printed frameworks to interpret and translate a paraplegic’s intentions into motions via custom-generated electrical stimulations. At the price point of only $300, significantly lower than existing solutions, we hope to see Ambrosia used throughout the world.
