Cleaning and recycling waste in space

Feridun Balaban, Turkey 13-15

Every time we send a vessel into space we leave waste behind. This waste orbits the world at an average speed of 17,500 mph and is usually the size of a tennis ball on average. If this waste hits a satellite or space vessel, it will leave a hole in the body. Four or five operating satellites are destroyed this way every year. The objective of my project is to clean up the waste left in space. With the “Rubbish Bin,” a space vessel we have designed for this purpose, I aim to recycle waste in space.
