This work posed and solved the problem of using easily accessible materials to build an easy-to-use universal device to measure both body mass and the density of liquids, granular material and solid bodies. The operation of the device is based on the Archimedes’ principle. Possible causes of systematic errors were studied. The method of measurement which was developed minimizes errors. The results of testing the device fall within the error margin of the experiment with control results obtained using laboratory equipment and agree with published data on the density of substances. The main advantage of the device is that it is universal (this is what makes the work novel), and also that is simple to make and use. The efficiency of the device was demonstrated in the laboratory.
